This vocabulary game designed for English lessons and focuses on compound words. Studenrs are shown two images and challenged to combine the words represented by those images to guess a new word. The goal is to guess the word as quickly as possible.
How to use it
Individually:
- Display one image pair at a time for a short period. Students say or write down their answer individually.
In Pairs:
- One student describes the two images without naming them, and their partner tries to guess the compound word. This encourages descriptive language and listening skills.
- Similar to the group challenge, pairs can compete against each other to be the first to call out the correct compound word after seeing the image pair.
In Groups:
- Divide the class into small groups (3-4 students). Present the image pairs on a screen or whiteboard. The first group to correctly guess the compound word and perhaps even spell it or use it in a sentence earns a point. This fosters collaboration and healthy competition.
- After identifying the compound word, each pair has to construct a grammatically correct sentence using that word. This reinforces vocabulary in context.
