Understanding Insomnia

A2 (Pre-Intermediate) B1 (Intermediate) Vocabulary Teens Adults

In this lesson, students explore the causes and effects of insomnia while learning vocabulary related to sleep, rest, and daily routines. The lesson begins with a lead-in discussion about personal sleep habits and bedtime routines, encouraging students to reflect on their own experiences. Students then read an engaging text about modern sleep problems and the impact of screen time, followed by comprehension and vocabulary-matching activities that reinforce key expressions.

Through guided practice tasks, students complete sentences, give advice, and participate in speaking activities that promote meaningful use of new language in context. The lesson concludes with a creative “7-Day Sleep Hygiene Challenge,” where learners design and present their own plans for improving sleep habits, combining vocabulary, personal reflection, and presentation skills.
